The Protoprint™ Initiative in collaboration with the waste picker cooperative, SWaCH, utilizes innovative technology that processes HDPE (High Density Poly Ethylene) into high value marketable products, i.e. 3D printing filament from recycled HDPE. The aim is to utilize this technology to enable waste pickers collecting such HDPE to become profitable micro-entrepreneurs within the solid waste management industry. The Protoprint™ process for converting HDPE waste into 3D printing filament enhances the value of plastic waste considerably. While waste pickers realize only around INR 12-15 per kg for HDPE in the scrap market, HDPE flakes fetch over INR 45 per kg and 3D printing filament will fetch between INR 1,200-1,500 per kg. enabling improved livelihoods and promoting the circular economy
