About Solution

Food wastage is an alarming issue in India. One in every 6 individuals today experiences hunger, although 40% of food produced in India is wasted due to inefficiencies in the supply chain. Food wastage occurs at all stages of the food supply chain, from the farm to the consumer’s home. Wastage at the early stages occurs due to a lack of awareness and limitations in harvest techniques, processing & infrastructure. Whereas, wastages at the downstream end are due to consumer behavior and practices such as poor meal planning, excessive purchasing habits, inefficient preparation techniques leading to a lot of leftovers. Other reasons are more out of the consumer’s control
even if a consumer wants a small amount of product, they have to buy a product in the minimum quantity available in the market which is far more than their need.

To address these challenges, there is an imperative need in a developing country like India to come up with a solution that is attractive for the customers to incorporate the change in their lifestyle. Urban cities provide a lot of opportunities and attract young people – it could also provide a marketplace to embed an attractive solution that will bring a change in how people consume food and come along with a purpose to reduce wastage. Here comes in Chefcape – mobile and web-based platform where users can choose meals of their choice and receive recipe boxes with fresh pre-measured ingredients at their doorstep. This will help consumers plan their meals in an efficient manner, encourage them to cook healthy food at home, use only the amount of food needed to reduce carbon footprint, and not leave any leftovers. So far, we have served over 300 consumers who have been happy to bring about a change to do their part of reducing the food wastage and incorporate habits that are efficient for them and their family.
